Important upcoming dates:

Dear CHA Community,

Consideration and appreciation are two sentiments we often don’t take the time to share.  Our third graders did both today at their Mother’s Day Brunch sharing why they appreciate their Moms.  The students shared why their Moms are important to them, how they make a difference in their lives, and what they enjoy most about their time together.  Following in their footsteps, I’m inviting you to take the time to demonstrate consideration and appreciation of another, beginning with the parking lot and carrying into other parts of our lives.  Please park between the lines.  If your car doesn’t fit, don’t park there.  Please follow the speed limit in the parking lot.  Our students and family’s lives are at stake.  It is a small sign of consideration that has a huge impact on everyone.

While we think people may know we appreciate them, they don’t always know the why behind it.  With the Leader In Me, we’re guiding the students to look to the why and the purpose behind their intentions.  We’re challenging them to find meaning and purpose in their actions.  As we model these behaviors, students follow in our footsteps.  Leading them as considerate, compassionate citizens who care and have concern for our community is the greatest lesson we can teach them.  Wishing every Mom a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Registration Information – This year we are switching to a different system for collecting all the information we need to keep your student safe at school. Later this afternoon, you should receive an email from TADS inviting you to complete the required forms. In order to make sure you receive communication from TADS, please add [email protected] to your contacts. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk folder. If you have not received the email by Monday morning, please email [email protected]The email will contain a link which says, ‘Click here to re-enroll on the TADS website’. The process should be straightforward, but we have prepared some instructions for parents, which you will find here. The deadline for completing registration paperwork is July 1st this year.

Sunscreen - With this nice weather we have been having, parents might be completing sunscreen forms and bringing in sunscreen for application before outdoor time. Just a reminder, all sunscreen turned in must have a corresponding Sunscreen Permission Form and be signed by the parent. We have a no aerosol sunscreen policy - lotions and sticks only. If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you!

June Lunches – The order form is open for June. You will find the menu and the order form here. The deadline is 4pm, Friday, May 31st, 2019. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].

May PD Camp – There will be no school on Friday, May 24th for Professional Development Day, but there will be camp held. The theme for camp is Archaeology and Expeditions! Join us on an expedition … to the past! Sign-up here by Thursday, May 16th.

Parking – The car park is small, and the spots are tight - none of this is news. If you are going to park and walk in, please make sure you are inside the lines so that others can park too or take advantage of our valet service and car line which operates every morning and afternoon.

Spring Music Recital – The recital will be held at Newport Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, May 22nd, at 6:00 PM. If you’re a student of Mr. Rees or Mr. Adams, you will work on your piece during your lessons. If you take private lessons elsewhere and would like to have it heard beforehand, please contact Mr. Rees - [email protected]. Please also consider signing up for refreshments at

Summer Camp Registration - CHA families will receive a 10% Early Bird Discount on enrollment for Camp Explorations registration forms submitted by May 17th, 2019. You can find all the information you need at

Kids and Race Parenting Class -  Please RSVP here by Thursday, May 23rd.

CHAPTER Updates

Vote for CHAPTER Board Positions! CHAPTER Board elections are almost complete. As a reminder, the deadline to vote is Tuesday, May 14th at 8:30 am. All Officer positions are on the ballot. Please take a moment to make your voice heard by voting online at

Faculty Appreciation Week – We still need a few more volunteers for next week.  We plan to make the week special by providing a catered breakfast and lunch, sweet treats, massages, flowers, and lunch/recess coverage, just to name a few. Let’s make it a success and express our appreciation for the wonderful teachers and staff at CHA!  You can sign up here.  Other ways you can help:

  • Bring fresh flowers on Tuesday, May 14th. Bring a flower for your child’s teacher; bring another flower (or two) for a specialist, IA, or admin staff.
  • Write Thank You notes.  Both you and your children can write special thank you notes that we will collect and share with the teachers and staff on Friday.  Look for the table off the lobby.
  • Talk with your kids about the week to let them know this is the week to honor the teachers and staff so the teachers will get special treats.  Explaining in advance will help with potential disappointment if they see the teachers enjoying their treats.

See today’s Friday folder for additional details, or contact Victoria Hunter at [email protected] with last minute questions.

Co-Chair and Volunteers Needed for CHA Annual CHAPTER Picnic – We will be holding the CHAPTER Picnic at Vasa Park, June 2nd from 2:30 - 6:30.  There are several opportunities to help out including handing out treats, setting up, assisting with the magic show and more.  Please consider being a co-chair for this event or lending a hand for one of the various volunteer opportunities.  Your help is needed to make it a success!  You can sign up here: or contact Beth Danielson at [email protected] or Steve Daly at [email protected] to assist at the event.

End of Year Party & School’s Out Celebration - Please join Jerry and Brandi Huang at their residence on Saturday June 15th for an End-of-Year Celebration. Jerry and Brandi are graciously and bravely hosting CHA students and their families for this early summer event. They are asking that you RSVP no later than June 1st. You can find the evite at
