Dear CHA Community,
Earth Day is the yearly occasion celebrated worldwide on April 22nd and this year’s theme is to protect and save every one of the animal species. Sustaining our Green School certification and taking care of our Earth is the foremost goal of the CHA Green Team. They created a week of activities to educate their fellow classmates. The Green Team provided morning announcements with helpful tips and informative facts, and they organized themed days such as “bring a stuffy to school” day to promote habitat awareness, and “Low Energy Tuesday”, during which they invited classrooms to turn off the lights and decrease their overall energy utilization. They also facilitated activities for recycled art, sunflower planting and hosted a “dress as your favorite animal” day. We rounded off Earth Week with an assembly created and led by our amazing second grade students. We’re proud of the students’ efforts and strategies to care for one another and our Earth.
ITBS - Testing Week begins on Monday, April 22nd and will continue through Friday, April 26th for 1st-5th grade promptly at 8:30. A few things that you can do at home to ensure that your child is positioned for the optimal testing experience are:
- Make sure they get a good night’s rest every night next week.
- Have a great breakfast that includes protein.
- Share the message that the most important part of the test is just doing their best.
- Be on time, if not early, to school.
Please note: Students who arrive after 8:30 when testing begins at 8:35 will not be admitted to the classroom as we want to ensure a positive testing environment is maintained without disruptions. Students who arrive late will need to stay in the lobby reading a book until there is a break in testing and they’re able to join their class. The student will then need to make up that section of the test on Friday. Please ensure that appointments are made outside of the testing window (8:30-11 for 1st and 2nd and 8:30-12 for 3rd-5th) during this week. The ITBS provides us with insight into how your child is achieving in a variety of academic areas and is just one moment in a yearlong learning process. We’ll share the results with you for your individual child, your child’s grade cohort, and the school overall, at the beginning of June.
Parent Satisfaction Survey – It’s that time of year when I ask you to join me in completing the 2019 Parent Survey. The survey gives the staff and I valuable information as to how we are meeting the needs of students and parents alike as well as providing us with an idea of the services we provide or families. The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Please print the confirmation page at the end of the survey and turn it into the front desk with your name on it. I’ll draw for three raffles for a $100 gift certificate to the shop or restaurant of your choice. The drawings will take place on Monday, April 22nd, Wednesday, April 24th, and Friday, April 26th and the winners will be announced in Campus Updates. The first class to have all their parents submit the survey will win a $100 gift certificate of their child’s teacher. Imagine the bragging rights the teacher will have for having the best parents ever! Each classroom teacher who has 100% participation will receive a $50 gift certificate of their choice. We appreciate you helping your child’s teacher achieve 100% participation. Last year we achieved 94% participation which is lower than in years past. With 99% participation CHA would continue hold the record for highest participation in the School’s Division and receive a $900 cash award from Bright Horizons to use for our end of year staff party. Please take a few minutes now to complete the survey.
Summer Camp Registration - CHA families will receive a 10% Early Bird Discount on enrollment (not including the registration fee or Extended Day) for Camp Explorations registration forms submitted by May 17th, 2019.
