Dear CHA Community,
As we wind down toward the end of the school year, we have a lot of great information to share with you, and two action-packed weeks ahead of us before we kick off our summer camp program. Thank you for taking the time to read through all of the updates below, and we hope to see you this weekend at the CHAPTER Picnic!
Spirit Week – Spirit Week is almost up on us! Next week, June 4th-8th, Student Lighthouse would like to invite all CHA Students to join them to celebrate the conclusion of this school year with some creative theme days.
· Movie Monday (dress like a movie character)
· Twin Tuesday (dress like one or more friends)
· Way Back Wednesday (dress in clothing from the near or distant past)
· Twilight Thursday (dress in comfy PJs and bring a stuffed friend)
· Freaky Friday (dress in mismatched clothing with crazy hair)
Please remember that for theme days and free dress days, school dress code guidelines should still be followed for appropriate footwear (I.e. no flip-flops or cleats), length of skirt and shorts, etc. We request that masks or any costumes that are violent/scary in nature be left at home. We look forward to seeing some fantastic outfits!
Summer Food Drive - Student Lighthouse will be hosting another Food Drive for the Renewal Food Bank, which is part of Northwest Harvest. During the Student Council field trip to the Food Bank in November, students heard that the Food Bank struggles to collect adequate numbers of donations during the summer months, and it was an easy decision for the students to move to provide support before the school year ends. The Food Drive will run from Monday, June 4th, to Friday, June 8th, with items being picked up by the Food Bank on Monday, June 11th. They would love to receive tuna, canned vegetables (corn, peas, and carrots, but no green beans, please), top ramen, cup of noodles, canned beans (chili, refried, black), tomato sauce or tomato paste, bottled water, and toilet paper. Thanks in advance for your generous contributions!
Field Day – Field Day will be held on Wednesday, June 13th, at Newcastle Beach Park in Newcastle. Students have been looking forward to this day for some time, and will have the opportunity to participate in some old-fashioned fun and enjoyable field games. We are looking for a group of enthusiastic parent volunteers who would like to be involved in this year’s Field Day. The event will be held from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and the parent volunteers are a HUGE part of what makes this day so wildly successful year after year. Green School Certification – We are very pleased and proud to share that our Green Team has again been recognized as a Sustaining Green School! Each school year that the school sustains its Level One (waste reduction and recycling), Level Two (energy conservation), and Level Three (water conservation and pollution prevention) actions and education, and adds a new conservation action or educational strategy, we will be recognized as a “Sustaining Green School” for that year. Thank you to CHAPTER for their Green Team support this year with the purchase of the hydroponic tower garden in the Café. Green Team students have been regularly maintaining the hydroponic tower, and have been taking shifts to check pH levels and water levels over the course of the week, and just harvested their first batch of greens to enjoy. Join us in congratulating them on their official Sustaining Green School recognition!
June Billing – The school year is coming to an end, and so are your charges! We are asking that you have paid for your lunch, extended day, and miscellaneous fees incurred in June by the 15th of the month. Due to these fees incurring after the 1st of the month, there will not be an automatic ACH draft, and all accounts must be reconciled in full prior to the end of our fiscal year in June. Please login to the Family Information Center and push through payment on or before June 15th, to avoid incurring late fees ($5/day late). CHAPTER End of Year Picnic – CHAPTER has a wonderful end-of-the-year picnic event planned for this Saturday, June 3rd, at Vasa Park! Activities will include hamster balls, a water balloon launch, and a magic show, and a hot dog service and other great snacks will be available as well. CHA Art Show Week – CHA Art Show Week is just around the corner! Art Show Week will be Monday, June 4th – Friday, June 8th, and the CHA artists have been very busy finishing up with their art show projects. We are very excited to present the artistic gifts and talents of our students! If you have any questions, please feel free to email Mrs. Choi ([email protected]). Be sure to check out the collaborative project completed by all of our students in honor of our 20th anniversary. It features a starry night sky over CHA and some other Seattle landmarks, and can be found just past the front desk on the main floor. It’s beautiful, and we’re so appreciative of all of the students’ contributions to this masterpiece!
Community Math Night - On Thursday, June 7th, we’ll be opening our doors and extending an invitation to parents in our local community to attend a Math Night evening with our resident math consultant, Tricia Salerno. This is an adult-only event with no childcare available, and dinner will be provided. Tricia will be sharing information on how to extend math learning at home and incorporate engaging math opportunities into the regular family routine. Participants can RSVP through the Facebook event or via email to [email protected], and if you’d like to attend, we encourage you to bring a friend along! We appreciate you helping us to spread the word.
Summer Tutoring- We have five CHA teachers who are currently offering their services as summer tutors. You can see details of the subjects and grades they will tutor, as well as when they are available and how much they charge here.
Lost and Found – As we near the end of the year, now is an ideal time to do a quick check of the Lost and Found to make sure your child has not left any items behind! The cart can be located near the door to the administrative offices. Additionally, a fitbit was recently found on the lower parking lot. Please check in with an administrative team member at the front desk if you believe this to be yours.
Uniform Swap – This summer, new incoming families will be taking advantage of the Uniform Swap to try on different sizes and styles of uniforms, and to determine what they will need to order for the fall. If you have gently used uniforms that your child has outgrown, we will gladly take those off your hands! Clean uniform donations can be submitted to the front desk or dropped off in the labeled bin in the Uniform Swap room (located next door to the Music room). Thank you!
Camp Explorations – There is still time to sign up for Camp Explorations, which will begin Monday, June 18th! Every year there are multiple weeks that fill up quickly (who doesn’t want to play on a giant waterslide on the field?), so we encourage you to submit your registration as soon as possible.
