Week In Review

Dear fifth grade families,

We’ve had a busy, exciting week. After the three-day weekend honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we discussed how he might have used the 7 Habits in his work for Civil Rights. Students had some thoughtful contributions about how he needed to “Seek first to understand, then to be understood,” “Synergize,” and “Think Win-Win” while working with community members and our nation’s leaders in the 1950s and 1960s.

Skiing

Week in Review - 1/17/2020

Dear parents,

We’ve had an unexpectedly short week with the snow, but there’s still a lot happening in fifth grade!  We hope you all enjoyed the time off and were able to have some fun time outdoors.  It has been great hearing about all the snow day adventures!

Congratulations to our classroom spelling bee winners Roman and Sophie and runners- up Luka and Rishab.  The winners will participate in the schoolwide bee later this spring.

Homework

Dear 5th graders,

I hope you’ve been able to enjoy some fun in the snow this week. I believe it’s likely we’ll be back in school Thursday, so I wanted to send a reminder about homework. Please bring your completed weekly reading sheet, the Leader In Me questions you received from Mrs. DeWitt during our meeting last Friday morning (remember, you needed to answer 3/6, discuss them with a family member, and get a family member’s signature), and your completed Wordly Wise lesson 5. You will have your spelling and vocabulary tests in class tomorrow.

12/19/2019 - Week in Review

Dear parents,

What a wonderful way to end 2019!  Our multi-cultural fair this year featured food and presentations from the many different cultures that make up our fifth grade group.  Thank you for sharing this special event with us.  We are so grateful to spend our days with your children and for having such a caring, supportive parent group.

Multicultural Food

Good morning,

I have students telling me they’re bringing food on Thursday for our Multicultural Tasting, which will take place before the Multicultural Fair at 2:30. So far, I’ve only had confirmation from one parent. If you’re planning to send or bring food for the 5th graders to sample on Thursday, please let Mrs. Taylor know what food we’ll be tasting. We have some absent students that day, so please plan for 18.

Thank you,

Mrs. Taylor

Week in Review - 12/6/2019

Dear parents,

It was great to see everyone again after Thanksgiving break!  We’ve had a busy week which was capped off with fantastic presentations in Science.  It is truly incredible what the students have accomplished and how much care, effort, and knowledge went into their projects.

Dear Parents,

We can tell it’s the end of the trimester and everyone is ready for some days off from school. Our hard-working fifth graders are showing some signs of stress and fatigue. If your child mentions they’ve had some longer breaks or a little extra free time this week, that’s why.

Assembly

The second and fifth graders did a tremendous job of synergizing to put on the first assembly of the year. If you weren’t able to join us this morning, we are fortunate to have a video of the event (thanks to Mrs. Morlidge) to share with you.

Dear Parents,

We enjoyed a short, but fun and learning-filled, week in fifth grade.

Thank you to MJ, Jane, Sasha, Stephanie, Marketa, Gretchen, Rukmani, Lisa, Masako, and Lisa (if I missed anyone, I apologize) for organizing, hosting, and cleaning up after a wonderful Halloween party. The kids had so much fun and so many treats. We hope our fifth graders and their families had a safe and fun evening as well.

Week in Review - 10/25/2019

Dear parents,

We’ve had a busy and productive week in fifth grade. It’s hard to believe that we are already nearing the end of October!  Fifth graders spent time this week discussing how to develop independence by using Habits 1 through 3 to win the Private Victory.  The first three habits encourage students to build responsibility, make plans to meet their goals, and live by their personal mission statement.

Week in Review - 10/11/2019

Dear parents,

It’s been a great week in 5th grade.  We enjoyed our second Playground Pals session, planned cake decorating for next week, and continued diving into our academic activities.  We’ve had many interesting projects going this week, so be sure to check in with your child about their learning.

Upcoming Events:

Week in Review

Dear Parents,

It was an exciting week in 5th grade as students received their invitations to join various leadership groups. Everyone is excited to further develop their leadership skills and give back to their school community through participation in Student Ambassadors, Kindness Club, Green Team, and Student Lighthouse. We look forward to seeing the great things they’ll do this year!

Volunteering

Week in Review - 9/20/2019

It’s been a busy week in fifth grade!  The weather cooperated for a fabulous Walk-a-Thon this afternoon.  The students enjoyed dancing, walking, and snacking their way around the field and parking lot!

Goal Setting Survey - Response Requested

Dear Fifth Grade Parents,

We look forward to our upcoming goal setting conferences.  If you could take a few minutes to fill out a survey about your child it will help guide us in collaborating with them as they set goals for the year.
