This includes homework posts, newsletters, weekly reviews, photos, conference sign-ups and any other information regarding field trips or special activities. Dearest Parents,

This week was short but, we completed a lot of work! This newsletter will contain information about the end-of-the-year events happening for our amazing fifth graders! Please sign-up for the Fifth Grade luncheon to celebrate all the students hard work!

Week in Review - 5/10/2019

Dear parents,

We are all settled back in from our trip to Washington, DC and have enjoyed a productive week in the classroom!  It was fantastic traveling with the students and we had an incredible time seeing all the sights.  In this week’s Friday Folder you will find permission slips for two upcoming field trips.  We will be going to lunch at a Mexican restaurant so that the students can practice using Spanish to order a meal.  We will also be enjoying a trip to get some hands-on science experience on a boat on Puget Sound to go along with our ecosystems unit.

Washington D.C. Washington D.C. Washington D.C. Washington D.C.!  That’s the only thing on our kiddos minds right now. We spent the week testing in the morning and doing “D.C. bootcamp” in the afternoons. We are so excited to go on this adventure with them!

Musical, Musical, Musical! This week has been all about “The Wizard of Oz!” We spent the week building and painting props, rehearsing multiple times a day and working out last minute kinks. We hope you enjoy our show next week!

Week in Review 3/8/2019

Dear parents,

The fifth graders were very busy this week!  Our musical, The Wizard of Oz, is really starting to come together and we’ve begun adding choreography, props, and costumes.  We are very excited to share it with you on Tuesday, March 26!

Dearest Parents,

This was a very productive first week back from mid-winter break! We are playing catch up from the snow days, as well as rehearsing for the musical.

Washington, DC update:

We sent out a reminder about the Washington, DC meeting this week. On Wednesday, March 13 we will have a meeting about details of our Washington, DC trip.  The meeting will be from 6 pm to 7 pm and is for students and parents in Mrs. DeWitt’s classroom.

Week in Review - 2/15/2019

Dear parents,

Despite the adventures the weather has brought, fifth grade has continued to make progress with our musical, wax museum project, and math activities.  We also were very pleased to have school reopen in time for our Valentine’s Day party.  Thank you to all of the parents who brought in art supplies and snacks!

On Wednesday, March 13 we will have a meeting about details of our Washington, DC trip.  The meeting will be from 6 pm to 7 pm and is for students and parents.

Fifth grade started musical rehearsals this week! Students have begun diving into their characters and are experimenting with voices and movements on stage.

Week in Review - 1/25/2019

Dear parents,

Fifth grade is in the middle of several very exciting projects.  We’ve begun learning the music for our musical, The Wizard of Oz, and we enjoyed seeing the amazing talents our classes have this week during auditions.  We sent scripts home today and are hoping that students can have their lines memorized by the time we return from mid-winter break.  We will begin rehearsals next week.

Our class auction project, the biome quilts is making amazing progress.  There is a lot of impressive sewing happening!

We had another great week in fifth grade! We are starting to cast the Spring Musical, which will be “The Wizard of Oz”. Auditions will be Tuesday and Thursday of next week!

Week in Review - 1/11/2019

Dear parents,

We have had a very busy week in fifth grade!  On Wednesday we had a fantastic first day on the mountain.  The teachers were very impressed with our students’ manners and behavior and it was a pleasure to get outdoors with them!  Today we continued our Quilt Auction Project and students selected an animal from a specific biome that they will research, embroider, and write an essay about.  It has been fun getting started on this exciting project!

Dear parents,

It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of the first trimester.  As we head to Thanksgiving break, one of the things we are most thankful for is the opportunity to teach such an amazing group of young people.  They have already accomplished so much this year and we are excited for the coming trimesters.

This week fifth graders enjoyed dressing up and partying for Halloween and an excellent field trip to see a performance of Peter Pan.  Thank you so much to all of the wonderful parent voluteers who made our Halloween Party possible!

Week in Review - 10/19/2018

Dear parents,

This has been such a fun week in fifth grade!  We really appreciate all of the parent support with supplies and volunteer time for our cake project this morning.  The kids had a blast and the cakes look amazing!  We are so incredibly lucky to have such a supportive parent community!

This afternoon we visited the University of Washington planetarium and enjoyed learning more about our solar system, galaxy, and universe.

Tomorrow the fifth graders will be going on our “Outdoor Survival” field trip.  We will be spending the whole day outside, so have asked the students remember a couple of things.

Social Studies Geography Quiz

Hello all, 

 I don’t normally post quizes but because it is short notice, I wanted to give you all a heads up. 

I will be giving a short 7 question quiz on Friday, September 21. They will need to label various geographic features in the United States. They worked on this today and have a completed map coming home to study from.
