Dear Incoming Families,

Welcome to your fourth New Families Campus Updates. If there is another parent/guardian in your family who should have received this email but did not, please ask them to check their inbox for an email from noreply@chestnuthillacademycom.myenotice.com. If the email went to their junk, please ask them to add the email address to their contacts. If the email cannot be found, please email support@chestnuthillacademy.com. When school is in session, we will send out all important school-wide information via Campus Updates as an email on Fridays so we want to make sure you are receiving them!

TEAMS Access – Congratulations to everyone who made their way to the CHA Parents Team! It is lovely to start seeing the introductions from our new families. All incoming parents have been sent an Azure AD invitation from invites@microsoft.com. Once you have accepted our Azure AD invitation, you should be able to login by clicking on this link CHA Parents Team. If you are having trouble with the app, just copy and paste the link into a Chrome incognito browser session and use the web version of Teams. As well as seeing the CHA Parents Team you should also see that you are a member of a private grade level channel, as well as some other public channels. The other parents in your grade, as well as the teachers, are members of these channels and are a great resource if you need help, but as teachers are on break now, you will most likely see responses from the admin team! If you are having issues, please email support@chestnuthillacademy.com.

Jupiter Texting Set Up

JupiterEd Account - JupiterEd is our Learning Management System which we use to record attendance, grades, behavior incidents, and report cards. Jupiter is also the system we use to send out emergency alert messages in the event of school closures, as well as notify you if we mark your child absent. To receive messages from Jupiter, you are required to verify we have the correct cell number on your account and give us permission to text you. To do that, please click here, choose the Parent tab, enter your child’s name and click Help Me Log in. When asked, it is important that you use the email address we have on file for you.  You will also find a link to JupiterEd on the Quicklinks dropdown of the school website.

After you have logged in to the Jupiter account, please click on the menu bars (1 on screenshot), click on Settings (2), check we have the correct cell number (3) and check the text message/email options (4) for notifications you want to receive e.g. Emergency Alerts, Messages, and Absences via text/email/both.

If you opt into Jupiter Text Messaging, the text number will display as 477-11 and you can reply STOP to opt-out of text messaging.  We will be sending Report Cards via Jupiter at the end of each trimester.

Please make sure that you have added notify@jupitered.com and noreply@jupitered.com to your contacts or safe senders list in order that the notification emails make it to your inbox. Q’s? Sarah Morlidge

Family Map – We have created a private Google map that shows the location of the students in our school by grade and first name so that you can identify families who live near you if you want to organize play dates or carpools. The map with our current families can be viewed on the Parent Portal here. I have also made a short video showing you how you can use the map in conjunction with the Student Directory to identify and contact families in your area. You can view the video here.

First Tuition Draft – On August 1st the first tuition payment will be drafted. When you signed the CHA Enrollment Agreement, you chose to pay tuition in full or monthly. Payments received after the 1st of August will have a charge of $5 per day. Q’s? Jaynie Woodard

What Happens Next?

  • August 13th - We will send you the September Lunch Order Form, Information about Extended Day and Extracurriculars, and instructions for subscribing to website updates.
  • August 27th - At this point, we will be able to share an outline schedule with you so that you know when your child will have PE (they need to be in PE clothes that day) and when they will have Library (they need to bring back checked out books on these days). We will also be sharing the updated Parent Handbook with you so that you can familiarize yourself with our policies and procedures, as well as sending home guidelines for student lockers, navigating the car park, and how to sign up for extracurriculars.
  • September 7th - We look forward to enjoying Ice Cream with you at the Ice Cream Social!
  • September 8th - We look forward to welcoming your CHA student on their first day of school!

Reminders

  • Summer Reading and Math - Information about our Summer Reading and Math Program is available here. For the summer math activities, your child will need access to IXL Math, using a ‘Clever Badge’. If your child does not have their Clever badge, please email support@chestnuthillacademy.com. Students should go to the Clever website (there is also a link on the Quicklinks dropdown of the school website and on the Computer Lab Website) or download the Clever app, choose the Clever Badge login option and hold their badge up to the camera on their device. If you need help, email support@chestnuthillacademy.com
  • Uniform Updates - Both vendors have the new school logo available for logoed items. Dennis is offering items with the old logo at 50% off, but they can only be worn till June 2022. We recommend that you order before July 16th and suggest using the sizing guides from both vendors to avoid disappointment when your order arrives. We also have items available from the Uniform Swap, and you place requests for them here
  • Sign-ups for the Family Information Center are now overdue. You can find out how to do that here. Q’s? Email Jaynie Woodard, Business Manager at jwoodard@chestnuthillacademy.com

There is more information about CHAPTER on the CHA website, which also has links to the CHAPTER Portal, where you can meet the board members (you will need to be logged in), and it's never too early to join the PTA  with a tax-deductible membership fee that helps to fund CHAPTER's investments in Enriching Education, Promoting Child Development, and Building Community at CHA. Dear Incoming Families,

Welcome to your third 'New Families Campus Updates'. If there is another parent/guardian in your family who should have received this email but did not, please ask them to check their inbox for an email from noreply@chestnuthillacademycom.myenotice.com. If the email went to their junk, please ask them to add the email address to their contacts. If the email cannot be found, please email support@chestnuthillacademy.com

School Website Access - In addition to the New Families page where you will find useful information for incoming families, you have now been given access to the Parent Portal on the school website, which requires you to sign in. You should be able to do that using the 'My Account' link in the top right corner of chestnuthillacademy.com . Your username is the email address we have on file for you. You will need to create a password using the 'Forgot Password' link on the home page. I have created a user guide outlining how to get started, which you can view at Parent Portal > Tech Tips > Website  (you will need to be logged in), and there is a video tutorial of the same content available as well. Please check that you have access to the correct grade level groups for your child(ren) and that the Student Directory entry for your child(ren) is present and correct. Please check your entry in the Parent Directory is also correct.

When school is in session, we will send out Campus Updates as an email on Fridays, plus additional School Announcements as and when necessary. Please be sure to add noreply@chestnuthillacademycom.myenotice.com to your contacts to ensure you receive the emails. It is important that you subscribe to the teacher's Friday Newsletters, or you will not receive them. To do this, please click on the blue tab for your child(ren)'s grade(s) in the Parent Portal, scroll to the Friday Newsletters section and click on the gold bell to sign up. Anywhere else you see a gold bell (e.g., on the calendar), you can subscribe to receive alerts. Please review the website guide or video to see how to do this.

Microsoft Teams – Teams is the platform we used to provide and support our online school. We had a lot of success using it as a communication tool as well as an education platform, so we will be continuing to use it this year. We will use email to send out all important school information, but we will use Teams for informal, ad hoc communication, one on one messages, virtual meetings when necessary, and Parent-Teacher Conferences. We would like all parents who are willing and able to join our Teams org. This can be a bit of a process depending on which device/browser/operating system you use.  Email me if you have issues and I will try and help.

The first step in the process is to get you set up as authenticated guests in our 'Azure AD'. All incoming parents have been invited. You should have received an invitation from invites@microsoft.com. When you click on Accept Invitation, you will need to sign in with a Microsoft account if you already have one, or you can create one using your normal email account, e.g., Hotmail or Gmail. You will need to follow the prompts, review, and accept permissions. If you decide to connect to Teams using a different email address from the one we have on file for you, please let me know so I can invite you to our CHA Parents Team and add you to the correct grade level channel. There is additional help available at Parent Portal > Tech Tips > Teams.

When you have accepted our Azure AD invitation, you should be able to login to the CHA Parents Team.

CHAPTER Message - Our PTA, CHAPTER, is excited to welcome you to the CHA family. Joining a new school community is a big deal for kids and adults alike. CHAPTER's goal is to serve as a resource to ease the way and help you to discover and enjoy everything the community has to offer. CHAPTER hosts community building and educational enrichment events throughout the year, including grade-level socials, our annual Gala and auction in the spring, supporting the school ski program, and more. CHAPTER is currently looking for Grade Representatives for Kindergarten – please email CHAPTER@chestnuthillacademy.com if interested! If ever you have any questions, please feel free to contact CHAPTER@chestnuthillacademy.com, or the class level reps who you can find on the CHAPTER Board Page.

Social Media – Did you know that CHA has a Facebook page, an Instagram account, a Twitter feed,  a YouTube channel  and a Flickr photo album? Content will be a bit slow to be updated over the summer, apart from Camp highlights, but we look forward to using these tools to share more of our culture and community with you in the fall. There are links to all at the bottom left corner of the website's homepage.

Dear Incoming Families,

Welcome to your second New Families Campus Updates. It was heartwarming to meet and greet so many of our new families at our drive through last week, despite the torrential rain! If there is another parent/guardian in your family who should have received this email but did not, please email support@chestnuthillacademy.com

New Website - You will have seen by now that our new site is up and running. One feature we have added this year is a dedicated page for our incoming families. On the New Families page you will find useful information, such as who to contact about what, an FAQ section and the New Families Checklist which has a useful timeline for you. On this page you can also see the messages we have already sent out, and you can subscribe to upcoming messages by clicking on the gold bell and entering your email address. We are in the process of adding new family accounts to the website and Teams, for parents who have completed the TADS registration, and will send home information about how to access both of those in our next Campus Updates on July 1st.

Clever Badge

Summer Reading and Math - We have published the information about our Summer Reading and Math Program here. All the sites we subscribe to are accessed via Clever Single Sign On. Your child will get access to those in the fall. For the summer math activities, they will need access to IXL Math, for which your student will need a ‘Clever Badge’. The badges are all available in a Dropbox folder here, sorted by grade. Please download the badge named for your child and print it off. Students should go to the Clever website, choose the Clever Badge log in option and hold their badge up to the camera on their device. If you do not have a printer, you can show the device the image from your phone. If possible, take the option to save their login information on the device they are using. Students in Grade 4 and above will be prompted to create a pin. Your child does not need to be on a Windows computer to log in to Clever and IXL math as there are apps available for Android and iOS devices as well. You can also find a link to Clever SSO in the ‘Quick Links’ section of the school website If you need help, email support@chestnuthillacademy.com

Uniform Updates - I am happy to share that as well as Land’s End, Dennis Uniform now has the new school logo available for logo’d items. As a reminder, we recommend that you order before July 16th to be sure that you receive your uniform items in time for the start of school. We strongly suggest using the sizing guides from both vendors to avoid disappointment when your order arrives, and the hassle of having to return stuff. We also have items available from the Uniform Swap, though none with the new school logo yet.  Items with the old school log can be worn until June 2022. You can place requests for items here

What Happens Next?

  • July 1st Access to Systems – This is when we will give you access to the back end of the website, and set you up on the Teams parents channels.

CHA is switching from Mailchimp to Finalsite Messaging - action required by you!

Dear New Families,

On Friday I will be sending out the 2nd Campus Updates for new families, which will include information about our Summer Reading and Math Program amongst other items. The message will be sent from our new website, so I would be grateful if you would add noreply@chestnuthillacademycom.myenotice.com to your contacts so that the message does not end up in your spam/junk folder.

The email will be sent using a mailing list that contains the email addresses you submitted when registering your child in TADS. If you have not completed TADS yet, you won't be on the list so please do that before Friday. If you have used the same email address for both parents we would ask that you give us a second email address to improve the chances of email communication getting through to your family, and to alert you in case one account does not receive the email. You can reply to this email if you want to add a second email address.

The message will also be posted to the New Families page of our website in the 'New Families Updates' section which you can also subscribe to by clicking on the gold bell and adding your name and email address.

If you have any questions about TADS, please contact Kaylee Strachan. If you have any other questions, feel free to reply to this email.

All the best,
Sarah Morlidge,

Dear Incoming Families,

Welcome to your first Campus Updates! This edition is for our incoming families and will be sent out every two to four weeks over the summer as and when we have updates for you. During term time Campus Updates are sent out every Friday. The hope is that this communication answers the question, “What to expect when you are enrolling?”. You might be wondering why we don’t just tell you everything now. The answer to that is threefold. There are some systems we can’t update until we have finished out the current school year, there are some information locations that will change when we migrate to the new website on June 1st, and finally, we have found in the past that if we give folks too much information in one go it is overwhelming and indigestible. Rest assured that as we roll this information out, we will be compiling it into one page on the new website so that you will have a single point of reference and will not have to keep track of the emails.

Uniform Updates

  • Uniform Logo -  As mentioned in the New Parent Orientation, the school is undergoing a rebranding exercise, getting a new website and a new school logo. I am happy to tell you that Land’s End now has their school uniform store up to date, so you can now order items from them safe in the knowledge that they will have the updated new logo. Dennis Uniform is still a work in progress; you can go ahead and order non logo’d items like skirts and jumpers, but please do not order items that need a logo from them yet.
  • Uniform Orders - You can find all the uniform ordering information you need on our website here. Orders take a while to arrive, so it is best to order a few weeks in advance. I have asked both vendors what their current lead times are. Land's End has shared that you should receive items in 10 to 14 business days. Your child will need one set of dress uniform, two sets of PE uniform (students do PE twice a week and stay in their PE uniform all day), and two sets of the daily uniform. We strongly recommend using the sizing guidelines on the website to avoid ordering the wrong size the first time round.
  • Uniform Sale - Land’s End has a promotion running May 26 - June 1 offering up to 30% off. The code is HOLIDAY, the PIN is 1865.
  • Grey Sweatshirt – We also offer a grey hooded school sweatshirt in a full zip or pullover option, which students are welcome to wear to school on PE days. You can find the ordering information on the same page as all the other uniform information.
  • Uniform Swap – This will be available when you get access to the back end of the website on July 1st.

School Supplies – You do not need to buy anything for your child apart from a uniform, a jacket, a backpack, and a lunch box, so you can sit back and relax while everyone else is doing their back-to-school shopping!

Eyesight and Hearing Test - Adequate vision and hearing are paramount to educational performance.  Impaired vision and/or hearing in children can seriously impede learning and contribute to the development of educational, emotional, and behavioral problems. Early discovery and treatment can prevent or at least alleviate many of these problems. Now would be a great time to schedule a checkup for your child so that any problems can be remedied before they start school.

COVID Updates for the Fall – One question on everyone’s mind is, “What will school look like in the Fall?” There is a page on our school website which we will update as the protocols evolve. You can find it here

Communication Tools

  • Email – We use email to send home weekly digests (Campus Updates) of school-wide information, notifications of website posts, and ad-hoc formal communication. Please add support@chestnuthillacademy.com to your email contacts to improve the chances of this communication getting through. Please check with your spouse/partner that they received this email and email support@chestnuthillacademy.com if they did not.
  • School Website – this is the formal repository of all things school related. When you get access to the new website you will be able to subscribe to receive notifications via email for website posts and calendar events.
  • Microsoft Teams is the tool we use for informal communication, quick updates, and ‘chatting’ with parents and staff. You will get access July 1st. For one-on-one communication with your child’s teacher, you can choose whether you prefer Teams or email.
  • Jupiter – This is the Learning Management System (LMS) that we use for gradebooks and report cards. Students in grades 3-5 will get access at the start of the school year so that they can keep track of their progress.

What happens next?

  • June 18th Summer Reading and Math Programs – We will be sharing information with you about reading and math activities your child should complete over the summer to keep their minds engaged.
  • June 21st Camp Explorations – This is our summer camp program. Incoming students are welcome to join as many weeks of camp as you wish. It is a great way for them to get the lay of the land, meet some of our staff, and make new friends. If you have an incoming kindergartner, we highly recommend the dedicated Kindergarten camp week running August 23rd-27th. You can find all the information you need about Camp here.
  • July 1st Access to Systems – This is when we will give you access to the back end of the website, set you up on Teams, and provide your child with access to Clever Single Sign On (SSO) which is the platform we use for students to log in to the educational subscription services we use.
  • July 23rd - We will be sharing the updated carpool/find-a-friend map with you, as well as telling you everything you need to know about ordering school lunches.
  • August 1st - Your first tuition payment will be drawn via ACH if you have signed up for Online Payments at the Family Information Center. Directions are below.
  • August 13th - We will send you the September Lunch Order Form.

Reminders - Each Campus Updates includes a reminders section at the bottom which is a summary of the information already sent out.

  • Sign-ups for the Family Information Center are due June 1st. You can find out how to do that here. Q’s? Email Jaynie Woodard, Business Manager at jwoodard@chestnuthillacademy.com
  • TADS Enrollment is due June 1st. Here is the link to TADS. You should have received an email with a setup code, and we have compiled a user guide for parents which you can view here. Q’s? Email Kaylee Strachan, Admin Assistant at kstrachan@chestnuthillacademy.com
