Dear CHA Community,
I recently read that we are what we repeatedly do and therefore excellence is not an act, but a habit. With this in mind, how do we add excellence in all that we do as a habit? Although the answer is simple: practice, the action of committing to practicing is difficult and one often avoided or placed on the bottom of our prioritized lists as one of the many things we don’t have time for. As educators and parents, we often tell or ask our students and children to practice. I’m sure you can hear yourself now asking your child, “Did you practice your spelling? Did you practice the piano? Did you practice your math operations? Did you practice shooting on goal?” This week 3rd through 5th grade students got to practice resilience as they coped with the less than perfect conditions on the mountain. The importance of practice is the essence of true growth and improvement towards excellence.
New Family Referrals - For a limited time only - we are doubling the parent referral bonus! How does it work? If you refer a new family to us who apply by February 15th, are accepted and attend CHA, you will receive a $500 tuition credit paid out on October 1, 2019. This includes families who have already been referred. Following the February 15th deadline, we will revert to our standard parent referral credit of $250 per family. All the information required by a family who wish to apply can be found here. Thank you for your partnership, we love being introduced to friends, neighbors, and colleagues through all of you!
Re-Enrolling at CHA – Current CHA families do not need to re-apply. Instead, existing families just sign a new tuition agreement. The agreements for existing CHA families will be available Friday, February 1st. This year the forms will be online. Please look out for an email from Head of School, Holly Senaga, next Friday which will contain the links to next year’s tuition agreements. The signed forms will be due at 4:00pm on Friday, February 15th.
Playground Updates - Swings, monkey bars, a surfer board, and a spinner, oh my! The students are enjoying the new components to our lower playground sponsored by our PTA, CHAPTER. We appreciate your donations that help fund projects like this that benefit every student.
Boxlight Panels - The 2nd Grade teachers were delighted to get back from the mountain yesterday and discover that while they were gone, we installed their new Boxlight Interactive Panels! These three panels have been purchased for the school by Bright Horizons. They are so easy to use that with minimal instruction teachers and students were able to start using them right way.
Mid-Winter Break Sign Up - There will be no school the week of February 18th for Mid-Winter Break. CHA will be completely closed on Monday, February 18th (President’s Day), but there will be camp available on Tuesday - Friday. Please visit the CHA Sign Up page to register your child for camp.
Weekly Snack List – You can view the snacks Chef Melissa will be offering next week here.
Volunteers Needed for Faculty Appreciation Week. Volunteers are needed next month to start planning and organizing the event. The success of our parent sponsored events depends largely on the generous contributions of time our members give. Please contact CHAPTER Volunteer Coordinator Steven Daly if you can assist with any of the activities below.
Mom’s Night out at Jimmy Choo at the Bravern: Please save the date for Mom’s Night out on Feb 9th from 4-6pm! For more information and to RSVP, please click here. If you have any question, please feel free to reach out to Susan Archer at Kukana123@hotmail.com.
Gala Auction Tickets are on sale now! You will find all the information you need, including the ticket link, some photos of last year’s fun and instructions on how to register, on our Gala Auction page - www.chestnuthillacademy.com/Auction. Strong attendance at this event is critical to ensure that we have adequate funds to continue with ambitious projects next year, and as such, early RVSP’s are appreciated.
Parent Communication Channels: We heard from one parent so far. Are there any other parents who would be interested in putting together a survey to see which app most parents would prefer to use, and setting up the app once it is selected? Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to help us with this project.
Ski Updates - Parent volunteers are still needed for 3rd-5th ski days to help take lunch coolers to the lodge and help students to ski poles for lessons.
CHAPTER Board Positions. Please contact email@example.com if you’d be interested in participating in CHAPTER Leadership or Representative roles for the 2019 – 2020 school year.
I look forward to seeing you at Family Math Night tonight!
All the best, Holly Senaga, Head of School
