Dear CHA Community,
I hope this finds you well and living your family mission. This week we focused on our “Big Rocks”, the things and people that are important in our lives and how we prioritize our time. Often, we let the little rocks get in the way of our big rocks. There are many things, that help us live a fulfilling life that are dependent on what we as individuals place importance on. What may be a big rock for you, such as a visit to a parent or grandparent, spending time with friends, exercising, and working where someone else’s big rock may be hiking, reading a book, catching up on a show or any number of activities. Both require you to commit to keeping your big rocks at the forefront of your planning and time while pushing back the little rocks that often consume our time taking away from what we say is truly important to us. I hope this next week gives you time to sharpen the saw with friends, family and for yourself.
Fall Food Drive - Chestnut Hill Academy’s Student Lighthouse Team completed a very successful Fall Food Drive. We collected 2,420 items for the Renewal Food Bank located in Bellevue which Student Lighthouse Members dropped off this morning. Thank you for donating and helping us continue our tradition of generosity in supporting our community. CHA students have earned a Free Dress and Stuffed Animal Day on Friday, Nov. 30th.
Report Cards - Today, you will be sent an email containing a link to your student’s report card via Jupiter. When you click on the link you will be taken to the Jupiter dashboard. You may need to choose ‘Report Card’ from the list of options on the left sidebar. If you have any difficulties receiving or viewing the report card please email email@example.com. If you have questions about the contents of the report card, please contact your child’s teacher.
Receiving the Jupiter Link - The email may, or may not, go in to your junk folder. If you want to proactively avoid that scenario you will want to add firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com to you safe senders list.
Printing or Downloading the Report Card - If you wish to print the report card, right click on the report card and choose print. To download the report card right click on the report card and choose Print, then choose Change Destination / Save as PDF in Chrome, or Select Printer / Microsoft Print to PDF in Internet Explorer.
CHA Subscription Sites - If you are not off to sunnier climes, we thought it timely to remind you that if your children are going to be getting screen time over the break there are a host of activities on the Computer Lab Website – (aka MrsMorlidge.com). This is the site that we use to curate sites that will be used by staff and students, both in school and for homework. The site includes links to IXL Math (on the Math page) and Accelerated Reader (on the Language Arts page) which your student will get access to in the Fall. If your student does not know their credentials, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will also see links to Brain Pop, Brain Pop Jr. Encyclopedia Britannica and ABCYa! on the Computer Lab website which we have accounts for. Your CHA your student is welcome to use these resources at home. The username is chatechlab and the password is chestnut. On the ‘Resources’ page you will also find a couple of lists of apps for mobile devices. At school the rule is that the students are only allowed to be on the activity that is directly linked. If you do not have adequate parental controls installed, you should not let your children play on the internet without supervision!
Winter Extracurricular Schedule - The new schedule for the winter session of extracurriculars has been posted to the CHA website and registration for classes opens this afternoon. You will find all the information you need at chestnuthillacademy.com/extracurriculars. If you have any questions about classes please contact the vendors directly, you will find their email addresses and links to their flyers on the website. If your child has already participated in an extracurricular this year you do not need to fill in the Extracurricular Agreement again.
Weekly Snack List – You can view the snacks Chef Megan will be offering next week here.
CHAPTER continues work on several initiatives funded by your generous donations to improve our school. The lower playground will be renovated in the coming months! We are adding monkey bars, 2 disc swings and extra netting to the lower big toy. Please stay tuned for more information on when this project will be complete and ready for our students.
This week, CHAPTER selected the vendor for final design and build of the gymnasium audio-visual equipment. We look forward to having high quality speakers, amplification, and projection permanently installed to support assemblies, presentations, and other events.
Cartoonist in Residence – Thanks to the generous sponsorship of CHAPTER, CHA students are enjoying working with local cartoonist, Jeff Johnson. Mr. Johnson has been teaching cartooning techniques to children in the Puget Sound area for the past 20 years. He will deliver a program called “Everyday Heroes” that will include cartooning instruction and culminates in creation of a classroom book. Starting Thursday, November 15, Mr. Johnson will be in art class Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for three weeks.
Celebration of Diwali - CHAPTER would like to thank all the parents who took time out to join us for celebrating Diwali on Friday, November 9th. Students and teachers learned about the significance of Diwali in India, decorated Diyas, tried on festive clothes and jewelry, and learned some dance moves. The event would not have been possible without our great volunteers and amazing CHA staff. Thank you again for the opportunity to share our culture. You can view photographs of the event at our CHA Flickr Album here. You will need to be logged into Flickr to view the album. If you already have a Flickr account, email email@example.com stating the email address associated with your Flickr account and we will send you an invitation to view our album. Once you have logged in to the Flickr album you can view and download photos for free.
Mom’s Night Recap - With 51 Moms in attendance, the 5th annual Mom’s night out was a fantastic success. CHA Mom’s enjoyed an evening of fine art and great food at CANVAS! Paint and Sip Studio in Kirkland, while building community and friendships.
Dad’s Night Recap - Our annual Dad’s night out may have started out civil, but after a few laps the gloves came off in a free-for-all race to top the leader board. More than 30 Dads in attended our annual event at K1 Speed in Redmond for a night of taco eating and competitive go cart racing. You will have to consult the photo to see who won!
