Important upcoming dates:

Dear CHA Community,

Did you know CHA has a Kindness Club? Students at CHA are not just talking about leadership- they are looking to practice it, as evidenced by the record-breaking number of students applying to our student leadership organizations this year. To provide more opportunities, we have added a third student-led leadership organization, Kindness Club, serving students in grades K-5. This group will work to make CHA a warm and welcoming place for students and staff. Our first event will be Mix It Up at Lunch Day on Tuesday, October 30. This international campaign encourages students to look beyond their friend group and get to know others in their community by sitting at an assigned table, where they are “mixed up” from their usual lunch companions. Conversation starters and activities, created by Kindness Club members, will be provided to help break the ice. We hope the experience allows students to discover what they have in common and strengthens our CHA community!

Halloween Celebrations - CHA will be celebrating Halloween on Wednesday, October 31st. Please join us for our Halloween Parade starting @ 2:40. If you’ll join your child’s class then your child’s teacher will direct you where to go. Staff members will be dressed in costumes, and students are also welcome to dress up for the day. Costumes are optional for everyone. If your child chooses not to dress up, he or she can wear free dress. When helping your child choose a costume for school, please use the following guidelines:

  • Masks will be allowed only during class parties. Students who ride the shuttle will not be allowed to wear masks on the bus.
  • NO weapons or potentially dangerous props may be brought to school.
  • NO bloody or gory costumes should be worn to school.
  • Costumes must be safe for playing on the playground and comfortable for wearing in the classroom (NO flip flops, cleats, slip-ons, or high heeled shoes, please).
  • Costumes should be appropriate for the weather conditions that day.
  • Please know that some party activities are messy and children occasionally get their costumes dirty during the day.
  • Students are welcome to change into costume prior to their classroom party if they’d be more comfortable in free dress throughout the day.

Your child’s classroom party planners will be sending home information about parties. Parents are welcome, and encouraged, to join in the fun!!! Halloween Party signups are here. Help at clean-up time is always appreciated. Extended Day will be available until 6:00, as always. Please contact your child’s instructor if you wish to cancel a music lesson and check with vendors to ensure class will be held.

Sibling Applications - Our admissions season is open and underway, and we would love to welcome more siblings to our Chestnut Hill Academy community.  If you have a child who will be five prior to September 30, 2019, and you are interested in applying for the 2019-20 school year, now is an excellent time to do so.  Our application deadline this year is January 25, 2019, and you can begin your application process here.  Completing your application sooner rather than later will give you a scheduling advantage in making your child’s assessment meeting appointment, and for currently enrolled families with a younger sibling applying, we will offer an early admission decision deadline so you can plan accordingly for the following school year.  We look forward to getting to know more future CHA students in the coming months!

Open House and Tuition Referral Discount – On Saturday, November 3rd, we will be hosting our first Open House of the admissions season.  The event will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM, with an opportunity for guests to tour with faculty, and hear from administration, teachers, parents, and student representatives.  We would love it if you would put in a good word to any families you might know who are looking for a private school for their child.  We offer a tuition referral discount of $250 to families whose friends subsequently enroll their student at CHA, so make sure they let us know who sent them!

Weekly Snack List – You can view the snacks Chef Megan will be offering next week here. If your child will not be eating the school snack you are welcome to send a nut free alternative to school in their backpack.

Chef Megan will serve Indian inspired snacks, sourced and prepared at CHA. There will be opportunity for crafts, dancing and even dress up.
