Kindergarten | First Grade | Second Grade | Third Grade | Fourth Grade | Fifth Grade

Kindergarten

This week at Art, Kindergarten students read the book called Mix it up, by Herve Tullet, and they learned primary colors have endless mixing possibilities! Mrs. Choi gave them primary colors, Red, Yellow and Blue with a little bit of white. The students had a great time creating many new colors. It was so much fun! 

This week in Library, Kindergarten students enjoyed a visit from a local Author, Deb Lund. The students were able to be “Dinosailors” and enjoy sharing her book as a group. Check out days are as follows: Wednesday: Bernal, Hawron. Thursday: McInerney, Newell.

This week’s objectives in Kindergarten Music were vocal repertoire, movement, long versus short, same versus different, and unpitched percussion technique. Kindergartners put the finishing touches on the Spring Musical Tikki Tikki Tembo. In addition, students learned a rhythmic spiritual called Get On Board, and played percussion instruments to A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea.

This week in PE, the Kindergarteners played a fun tag game called “Aliens and Astronauts” on Monday. In this game students needed to use shooting stars to save their fellow astronauts when they were sent to the black hole by the aliens. They learned that if they weren’t diligently saving their friends, eventually they would end up trapped, and with nobody left to save them. On Friday they had a blast playing “Oscar the Grouch”.

This week in Spanish, Kindergarten was introduced to two new shapes rectangle and diamond. They had to find all of these shapes and count them.

This week in Kindergarten Technology, students discovered BrainPop Jr. Is a collection of educational animated videos for students in elementary school. The videos cover the subjects of the subjects of Science, Social studies, English, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology, Health, and Arts and Music. Videos are also accompanied by a variety of games and activities that reinforce learning. You can access BrainPop Jr. through the Computer Lab website.

First Grade

This week’s objectives in 1st Grade Music were movement and vocal repertoire. 1st Graders put the finishing touches on their musical this week learning their final song.

This week in Spanish, First grade finished making their farm puppets. They also added a writing part to the back of it. The writing part said what animal noise it made in English and Spanish.

This week in First Grade Technology, students completed Code.Org’s Course 1. They earned their code course certificate which will be featured in their portfolios. Each student was sent home with their access card so that parents can view their progress from home. Students may even continue to practice at home using their secret picture on this card. Second Grade 

This week at Art, Second Grade students continued working on the Comic Strips projects inspired by Paul Klees Cat and the Bird painting. 

This week in Library, Second Grade students enjoyed a visit with a local Author, Mrs. Deb Lund. The students worked on revising and editing fiction stories they created. Check out days are as follows: Wednesday: Duffina. Thursday: Fox, Morman.

This week’s objectives in 2nd Grade Music were movement and vocal repertoire. 2nd Graders put the finishing touches on their musical this week learning their final song.

This week in PE, the Second Graders played one of their favorite game on Wednesday. “Oscar the Grouch” keeps everyone constantly working together. On Friday, they learned a new game call “Aliens and Astronauts”.

This week in Spanish, Second grade worked on a rough draft were they talked about their monsters they drew last week. Once they were finished they added their sentences to their final draft and added their drawing of their monster.

This week in Second Grade Technology, students continued to work with the Scratch coding platform. They were beyond excited to be able to develop their own sprites and costumes today. Students used the drawing tools to create their own characters and code their characters using what we have learned so far in class.

Third Grade 

This week at Art, Third Grade students continued working on the Patterned Pat project inspired by Heather Galler. 

This week in Library, Third Grade students enjoyed a visit with a local Author, Mrs. Deb Lund. The students worked on revising and editing fiction stories they created. Check out days are as follows: Wednesday: Peters, Watkins. Thursday: Setting.

This week’s objectives in 3rd Grade Music were movement and vocal repertoire. 3rd Graders put the finishing touches on their musical this week learning their final song.

This week in PE, the Third Graders got one more day of Continuous Cricket before cashing in their Bird Bucks for a free choice day. They are looking forward to learning some pickleball skills next week.

This week in Spanish, Third grade made a tree map that included information about their animal they will be researching. They added information about where their animal lives, eats, drinks, and has.

This week in Third Grade Technology, students continued with their project in connection to their Language Arts class. Students set out to design comic strips that incorporated words from their Wordly Wise book. Using the online comic strip generator, Make Belief Comics, students began to develop their comic using these words. There is a link to the site on the Computer Lab website.

Fourth Grade 

This Week at Art, Fourth Grade students had a great time working on the Ceramic Snack Box project. Their creations are all on the shelves in art class and drying. 

This week in Library, Fourth Grade enjoyed a visit with a local Author, Mrs. Deb Lund. The students worked on revising and editing fiction stories they created. Check out days are as follows: Monday: Shamsen, Warenkiewicz. Thursday: Springer.

This week’s objectives in 4th Grade Music were movement and vocal repertoire. 4th Graders continued to work hard on their challenging music and choreography for the Spring musical.

This week in PE, the Fourth Graders got one more day of Continuous Cricket. Before beginning our pickleball unit on Thursday. They are looking good and will be ready to begin rallying over the net next week.

This week in Spanish, Fourth grade worked on a study guide to prepare for their test. They also reviewed by playing a game called Kahoot using their Surfaces.

This week in Fourth Grade Technology, students learned about our Lego Animation project that will span over the entire last semester. They will be developing a Lego Animation movie using stop-motion animation surrounding one of the 7 habits. Students viewed videos of past students and began to develop their plot using a story map.

 Fifth Grade 

This week at Art, Fifth Grade students learned about the numerous career paths that art can lead us down such as: industrial design, graphic design, photography, fashion design, architecture, illustrator, entertainment designer, fine artist, museum director, art teacher etc. We looked more specifically at some of the products that have been designed by industrial designers as well as the process that an industrial designer goes through to create his/her work. Then we started working on designing our own guitars. They carefully pick a theme for their designs and made cool sketches. 

This week in Library, Fifth Grade students enjoyed a visit with a local Author, Mrs. Deb Lund. The students worked on revising and editing fiction stories they created. Late notices are sent home in Friday Folders. Check out days are as follows: Tuesday: Taylor Wednesday: Carpenter.

This week’s objectives in 5th Grade Music were vocal repertoire and choreography. 5th Graders worked both in ensemble and solo settings rehearsing the music for their Spring musical Annie.

This week in PE, the Fifth Graders played a little bit of dodgeball and then got one more day of Continuous Cricket. Pickleball will start up next week.

This week in Spanish, Fifth grade compared two pictures and identified the food items found in those kitchens. They also worked on a double bubble map where they had to sort out breakfast and lunch items. The students also wrote about drinks to indicate how often they drink them.

This week in Fifth Grade Technology, students continued with the creation of their animal research websites using Wix. Now that students have a shell and understand how to add images and content without plagiarizing, these next two weeks will be dedicated solely to working on finishing up their websites.
