Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. We have much to be thankful for that begins and ends everyday with words of wisdom from the youngest members of our community. Their thoughts inspire us to remember there are many miracles that surround us. Just today, I observed a Kindergarten student help another into their jacket, two fellow First Grade classmates walk hand in hand to the playground, Fourth Graders demonstrate teamwork in their Archeological Dig and our Student Council count out your generous donations from today’s food drive. With this in mind, I’m thankful to be a part of a school that fosters consideration of others. As you begin your vacation next week, I wish you health and happiness as you spend time with loved ones and look forward to welcoming you through our doors.

Student Council Food Drive - We could not be more amazed and impressed with the generosity of this community. As of yesterday, our Student Council representatives delivered 696 items to the Renewal Food Bank (already an impressive donation). The director of the food bank shared with our Student Council that when you factor in size of school or number of students, and then amount of donations, that Chestnut Hill Academy has been their strongest school supporter over the past sixteen years. Our Student Council representatives had set a goal of 2000 items for this year’s drive, and when we shared our update yesterday afternoon, we saw a flood of items arrive today, bringing us to a grand total of 3,007 items donated to Renewal Food Bank. I’m fairly certain our Student Council representatives who came down to inventory and count the items this afternoon could be heard throughout the building with their cheers and excitement. Thank you so much for modeling a spirit of generosity and compassion for others in our local community.
Report Cards - This afternoon you will be receiving an email from Jupiter, to the email address we have on file for you, containing a link to your CHA student’s first trimester report card. If you do not receive the email, please check spam and junk folders. If you still don’t see it please email firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions about the content of the report card, please email your child’s homeroom teacher.
Sibling Applications - Our admissions season is open and underway, and we would love to welcome more siblings to our Chestnut Hill Academy community. If you have a child who will be five prior to September 30, 2018, and you are interested in applying for the 2018-19 school year, now is an excellent time to do so. Our application deadline this year is January 26, 2018, and you can apply now at http://www.chestnuthillacademy.com/admissions/apply-now. We are actively working on completing application files and scheduling assessment meetings, so completing your application sooner rather than later will give you a scheduling advantage in making your child’s assessment meeting appointment. Additionally, for currently enrolled families with a younger sibling applying, we offer an early admission decision deadline of February 16th, so you can plan accordingly for the following school year. We look forward to getting to know more future CHA students in the coming months!
6 Week Parent Survey - Thank you to all the parents who took the time to complete the 6 week survey. Your feedback is very important to us. For the most part the feedback was very positive, which is encouraging. We have posted the summary results to the Parent Portal and you can view them here. Where parents had questions or concerns, either the homeroom teacher or a member of the admin team will be reaching out depending on the question. The names of all the parents who completed the survey were put in a raffle and the lucky winner of the prize draw is survey number 12 – completed by Anita Sundaresan. One thing that we heard you saying is that it can be hard to get to know the families in your grade. The good news is that your CHAPTER class reps are busy planning grade level socials for January, so be sure to look out for information about those. We are also looking at how we can do a better job connecting new families with each other, and with current families who have geographical proximity. Let us know if you have specific suggestions.
December Lunch Orders - The December lunch order form is open until 4:00pm on Wednesday November 29th. If you go to the lunches page here you will be able to see the menu and order form. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you can also view the weekly snack menu posted by Chef Megan.
Extra-Curricular Classes - The Fall Session of extra-curricular classes will finish December 8th. The Winter Session will start after winter break, in the week beginning January 8th. Look out for details of some exciting new options that we will be bringing to CHA including robotics, coding, drama and photography. Registration information for the Winter session will be in December 8th’s Campus Updates.
Parent Teacher Conference Signups are closing today - Parent Teacher Conference Sign Ups will close at 4:00pm today. They are available until then on the CHA Sign Ups page.
Singapore Math Parent Class - Our resident Singapore Math consultant, Tricia Salerno, will be leading a Singapore Math parent class titled ‘The Bar Model’ on Tuesday December 5th from 6 – 8pm. Please RSVP here if you are able to attend. You can see the flyer here.
