CHA Community,

When some of you woke up to snow this morning and began watching the news ticker to see if there’d be school or late start only to find it was power outages that closed the school for the day, makes this morning a testament to your patience.  The initial power did not go out until 7:15 with an update from PSE showing it coming back on around 9:30.  The power came back on around 8:45, but I wanted to wait 15 minutes to ensure it didn’t go out again before we communicated we’d be open.  After 20 minutes of having power, communication was sent that we’d open at 9:30 for care and 10:00 for school.  No sooner did communication go out and the power went out again.  At that time, I made the decision to close for the day rather than have parents continue to drive back and forth given the uncertainty of the power.  Due to CHA students being in school more days and hours then are required and not participating in late start or early release days, today will not need to be made up.

It’s now begun to snow outside the windows of CHA.  The afternoon will tell what  the remainder of the day will bring.  I understand there were disappointed students who had field trips planned, book reports to present, and learning to occur.  I also understand we had disappointed parents and teachers who had work to do.  The decision to close the school or delay the start of school is not taken lightly; as working parents ourselves we understand the inconvenience it causes. Our decision is almost always based on the protocol adopted by the Bellevue and Issaquah School Districts. We have staff and parents coming from a wide geographic area; even if conditions are good where you are, that might not be the case for the rest of our community.

Emergency Alert Notifications  - As well as posting the message on the school website, we will use Jupiter to notify you by text and email. You can also register with, a free service which will alert you via email and text.  In order to receive text messages from Jupiter you are required by law to opt in to the service, we cannot set this up for you. You should have received an email from Jupiter this afternoon which contains instructions for updating your settings. If you opt in to Jupiter Text Messaging, the text number will display as 477-11 and you can reply STOP to opt out of text messaging. You do not need to phone the school to check if the message is genuine. If you arrive at school and there are signs posted on the door that the school is closed please do not attempt to enter the building as it may be alarmed.  If you have questions about Jupiter please email

We do offer a referral bonus of $250 to families whose friends subsequently enroll their student at CHA, so be make sure they let us know who sent them!

Ski Orientation - We are hoping to see all our new parents at next week’s Ski Orientation meeting. For those of you who have been through this before and just need a refresher, you can view Coach McIntosh’s presentation here. It contains important information regarding the ski passes you need to purchase, checklists for the equipment your student will require, and the equipment checks that he and Mrs. Senaga will be performing. If you will be attending the orientation session, please don’t forget to sign up here so that we know how many people to expect. If you still have questions after reading the material, or attending the presentation, please do not hesitate to reach out to Coach McIntosh.

Text Message Set Up  - We use Jupiter to send emergency messages. In order for you to receive text messages from us, parent need to opt in on Jupiter. By federal law we cannot set this up for you. You will be receiving an email from Jupiter today which will contain instructions for updating your settings.

Parent Survey Feedback - Thank you to those of you who filled in the 6-week family survey. Now that the survey is closed we will be downloading the results and letting you know what changes we make in the Campus Updates after the Thanksgiving Break.

Halloween Roundup - Halloween was a blast this year! It was wonderful to see all the students, staff and some parents in their costumes. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who helped make the day a fun one to remember! The photos staff took have been loaded to our CHA Flickr Album. You will need to be logged in to Flickr to view them, contact if you need access.

We know that this time of year, it is often hard to think about the holidays, but the holiday season really is right around the corner! These plants are beautiful and make great gifts for family, colleagues, neighbors, and all those folks that you usually pick up a ‘little something’ for. Why not take care of those gifts while helping your school? Thank you, in advance, for your support!!! Wendy Lacy   & Ed Gallas

Childcare Signups  - The Childcare signups for Thanksgiving Break, Parent Teacher Conferences and Winter Break are available on the CHA Sign Ups page. The Thanksgiving Break Sign Up will close at 4pm on Monday November 13th.
