Welcome to the Chestnut Hill Academy website! For the past 14 years, CHA has been dedicated to developing global leaders one child at a time. The founders of the school focused on the development of the whole child — their intellectual, emotional, social, physical, and character development. This remains the aim of CHA today. The school strives to develop intelligent, thoughtful, and caring leaders with educated hearts as well as educated minds. We never lose sight of why we are really here and that is to prepare children for further academic challenges and to guide them to be responsible, compassionate, and active leaders of the world.

The academic program at CHA is notably challenging, but sufficiently flexible to meet the individual needs of children with varying degrees of readiness and ability. Although significant attention is given to the academic subjects and the co-curricular programs of Spanish, Music, Art, Technology, Physical Education, Library and Latin, we believe that the growth of the whole child, including his or her attitudes and values, is as important as any particular academic discipline, knowledge, or skill.

CHA strives to have a diversified student body. We are a community of learners who value and are strengthened by the wide variety of our members. We believe that diversity unites the academic environment and is of paramount importance in preparing our children for life in an increasingly diverse and complex society. We are a school where individual differences are respected, welcomed, and valued.

The only way to fully understand the magic of CHA is to see us in action. We invite you to schedule time to come and experience for yourself the school’s unique way of educating student leaders to be knowledgeable, confident, and resourceful learners.

Campus Update 2/03/2012

Dear Parents,

First and foremost I’d like to thank everyone for participating in the Parent Satisfaction Survey!  As of today, we had 202 surveys completed out of 205 moving CHA to First Place in the Schools Division!  This means we had 98% participation!  I look forward to sharing the results of the survey.  I greatly appreciate your synergy!

Today in your child’s Friday Folder you’ll have a large white envelope with your child’s name on it.  Inside the envelope is your Re-Enrollment Contract for the 2012-2012 school year.  The packet also includes paperwork that needs to be updated for your child to be enrolled at CHA next year.  Normally we send this paperwork home in June, but find with vacations it can get lost in the shuffle so while we have you here on site it will be easier to collect and answer any questions that you may have as it pertains to the forms.  The contracts are due on February 17th, 2012.

Chestnut Hill Academy was recognized this month for our completion of Level Two as part of the King County Green Team, which includes energy conservation as well as building upon Level One waste reduction and recycling practices. The City of Bellevue, in partnership with King County, has provided on-site support, as well as recycling containers and signs, for both schools. In 2011, Chestnut Hill Academy built upon its Level One successes by reducing paper use. The student Green Team helps monitor lunchroom recycling. Students use durable utensils, cups and plates in the cafeteria, and water is available for students to refill their water bottles. To conserve energy, announcements are made about turning off unnecessary lights and keeping doors closed. Parents receive reminders about dressing children appropriately for the weather. Heat is turned off in unused rooms and lights are controlled by motion sensors. Chestnut Hill partnered with Puget Sound Energy to install aerators on water faucets to conserve water and also to conserve the energy required to heat the water.

Attached you’ll find an invitation to the Exploration in Math to Mathfest on March 24th, 2012 from 1-4 at Lakeview Elementary in Kirkland.  Last year, CHA received a trophy for the highest participation.  We hope to retain that honor and have a great turnout at this year’s event as well.

We had 10 math challenges submitted for December and January.  The winner for K-2nd Grade is Illa Ranjan in Ms. Lundberg's class and the winner for 3rd & up is Sally Zhao in Ms. Brendler's class.  Great job showing the work to get to the correct answer!

Thank you,

Holly Senaga
